Bubba's Page!
Bubba and one of his brothers in the night drop box at the animal shelter, they were left in that box for a week.
Bubba upon arrival at rescue on 3/24/2007.
Fred & Barney
Two other puppies from the same litter. As you can see, they also had a severe case of mange and were underweight.
The picture on the left was taken March 30th, the picture on the right, April 16th. Quite an improvement!
His left eye was so crusty and scabbed up I doubt he could see much out of it, if at all.
His entire body except for his tail and ears were raw, inflamed, scabbed over and oozing.
But he never quit trying to stand,
and he still hasn't!
Please check back for pictures of Bubba at the vet and throughout his recovery!
Updated pictures of Bubba 4/03/2007 at Loomis Basin Animal Hospital. He is still a very sick puppy but already looks so much better than he did! His skin is cleaner, and while still bald - appears much softer and not quite so leathery looking. His left eye is almost back to normal too!
First day out of the hospital - nappy time!
Update from Bubba's foster mommy 04/12/07:

I've begun housebreaking Bubba which has been challenging since I haven't picked him up and have resorted to corralling him to go outside after I have told him "NO" when he pees or poops in the house.  He whimpered every time he was picked up but I also found he would whimper when I corralled and directed him to the door (without touching him) so figured he has conditioned himself to whimper when touched or nearly touched most likely due to being in pain for so long.  Then I noticed since yesterday he is not whimpering so readily when I direct him to the door so he must be realizing that I am not hurting him.  But, overall he is doing fantastic! He plays with the toys and is now curious about everything!  I just vacuumed and he was not paralyzed by the sound as many dogs are.  I am converting him to Natural Balance dog food from the rice/cottage cheese/boiled chicken but adding in fish oil and eventually nupro which is a supplement additive.  I do not have a dog door and am looking into purchasing one.  It should make potty training easier for him and myself.  He rarely barks but does so and cries when I am not in his view.  He showed signs of attachment to me within 24 hours.  As I may have mentioned, he has an excellent temperament and is not food aggressive, is great with Bandit doesn't mind being touched considering the pain he has been in.  He is afraid of new people and barks at them until he figures they are ok.  He greets my husband and daughter with excitement.
Update 4/17/2007:

I gave him another bath on Saturday.  He resisted a bit more this time but gave up after 30 seconds and just stood in the tub while I washed him.  He is such a good boy!  He also knows that “out” means to go outside and this
command is almost always said when he does his business “IN” the house.  He’s learning relatively quickly and is for the most part peeing/pooping on the pads.
